Heidi Palmer has been painting New England landscapes and interiors for many years.  She depicts quiet scenes and explores the effects of various kinds of light.  There are no people in her paintings but there is evidence of the universal human desire for solitude and peace in today’s world.  They provide an opportunity for contemplation.  These paintings are often about that dream place between the real and the surreal, the line between the ordinary and the extra-ordinary.  They attempt to evoke nostalgia for the past in such a way that an awareness of the present becomes more acute and, with it, ambivalence about the future.  They aspire to be a vacation for the mind.  An observer has written, “These are paintings to be lived with rather than to impress an onlooker.  They thus run counter to the principal current art market.”
