Laura Anderson,
a native of Massachusetts, has been widely recognized for her luminous
paintings of porches and chairs juxtaposed with the surrounding
landscape. Laura states, she has "always been fascinated with
painting as a vehicle by which she can transport herself to another
place". For the past several years she has been pursuing a
series of architectural paintings, exploring the relationship of
the landscape to domestic images. The surface of her paintings are
void of any visible brush strokes allowing the viewer to be drawn
into the painting, experiencing the light and mood that occurs in
the still of the morning or the quiet of late afternoon. Using layer
upon layer of paint, Anderson can take up to a month to complete
a painting giving them an effect of being more than real, an image
that only the mind can conjure. (continued
