Art is always in season at the Jessie Edwards Studio on the second floor of the Post Office building. New works by a variety of gallery artists are on exhibit now and through the holiday season, which begins with the Christmas Stroll on Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28. For hours, call 401-466-5314 or visit www. jessieedwardsstudio.com website.
Among the newest works on display are a gouache by Elizabeth Pannell, an oil-on-canvas by Daniel Pollera, Sandra Swan’s most recent woodcut, photography by Mary Beth Jarrosack, and watercolors by Fred Poisson. Together, they offer images that ease us through the transition from autumn to winter.
Pannell’s gouache “Down Snake Hill Road” is a view of the rocky beach in amber tones with deep teal blue water and gently foaming surf rolling in. In Daniel Pollera’s “Table and Chairs,” a warm western light accentuates the familiar angles and slats of the backs of two Adirondack chairs facing east to a clam sea and the shadowy bluffs of Clayhead in the left horizon.
“Hrannar, Icelandic Pony,” Sandra Swan’s most recent woodcut in a limited edition of 50 signed and numbered prints depicts in vivid detail and texture the rugged yet gentle beauty of Hrannar, an Icelandic pony who captured her fancy a few years ago. Similarly, Mary Beth Jarrosak’s three-paneled photograph “Snowy Owl Triptych” captures the grace and strength of this wintry visitor as it glides in its white-feathered beauty through a clear blue sky.
Fred Poisson’s two watercolors are antidotes to the discontent that can sometimes set in during a trying winter. “Winter Blanket” is a large (58” x 38”) scene of a quiet snowfield with soft, pale winter light defining bare brown tree branches and casting shadows of the trunks across the undisturbed snow. “New Year’s Day” has a brighter, crisper light falling on the clear blue water of a pond surrounded by a snowy expanse of fields with dark foliage across the horizon. No winter discontent here!
Starting with the Christmas Stroll and continuing through Christmas, there is 15% off in-stock reproductions of works by Jessie Edwards and Fred Poisson. In addition, the gallery offers a range of work by over 30 artists, from small prints to large oils.
